  middleton-by-wirksworth - 11 main street ::

11 Main Street in Middleton-by-Wirksworth is a former Derbyshire quarryman's cottage built in the early 19th century with views over the surrounding countryside and Black Rock. The well equipped, comfortable, cosy accommodation is available all year round for short breaks and longer bookings.

A compact and cosy 1 bedroom cottage in the village of Middleton-by-Wirksworth, ideal for walkers, climbers and other visitors to the Peak District National Park.

Location

Middleton-by- Wirksworth is just over three miles from Matlock and about one mile from Wirksworth, between the A5012 (Via Gellia) and the B5203. The village is steeped in the history of lead mining and limestone quarrying; Middleton is the site of the only limestone mine in the country. In former years limestone and other minerals were drawn up to the High Peak railway by means of an extremely steep railway, operated by the Middleton Top engine house which has been restored to working order. Middleton Top is a popular access point to the High Peak Trail, popular with walkers and mountain bikers. There is a bicycle hire point at Middleton Top on the Trail.

There are two pubs in the village, both of which serve food, and a shop/post office which sells some locally produced goods. Wirksworth is within reasonable walking distance and boasts an annual Arts festival in September, an assortment of interesting shops, restaurants, a bistro/wine bar, and takeaways.

Accommodation

There is a spacious lounge with dining area, gas fire, TV and DVD player. The two sofas convert easily into occasional beds for extra guests. A fully equipped kitchen with ceramic hob, microwave / oven, fridge with ice box. Large double bedroom with adequate room for a baby's cot. All bed linen and towels and provided. Adjoining bathroom with bath and shower, and heated towel rail.

To the rear of the house is a raised seating area in a pleasant garden with views of the neighbouring countryside (also visible from the two front windows), including Black Rock, a local beauty spot favoured by novice climbers.
