valley below. The cottages are cosy and equipped to a high standard.

Locality
The peaceful little hamlet of Alton is in beautiful countryside
on the fringes of the scenic Peak District National Park.
Don't make the mistake of thinking this is the home of the
Alton Towers theme park - that's in Staffordshire 33 miles
away. Our Alton is a sleepy hamlet in the picturesque award-winning
parish of Ashover. Our two lovely cottages are the ideal base
for exploring all this area has to offer and visitors often
comment on how centrally located they are for reaching the
many attractions of Derbyshire and the Peak District. For
example Chatsworth is just over 7 miles away - 15 minutes
by car. There is excellent walking from the doorstep with
horse-riding in the village. The "Crooked Spire"
town of Chesterfield and the resort of Matlock Bath are both
within a few miles. The "White Peak" dales around
Bakewell and Dovedale are all an easy drive away. There are
several excellent pubs which serve food in the vicinity -
at least half a dozen of them just over a mile away in the
neighbouring villages of Ashover, Milltown and Woolley Moor.
The Peak District National Park covers 500 square miles
across several counties and attracts visitors from around
the world. Derbyshire is famous for its natural beauty from
peaks and dales to picturesque villages. It really does have
something for everyone - for the more energetic there is fantastic
walking, sailing and climbing. It has more historic houses
than you can shake a stick at - Chatsworth, Hardwick and Haddon
to name but three. For families there are caves and caverns
to explore, theme parks to visit and cable cars and trams
to ride. Or why not simply stroll around our many pretty towns
and villages or potter about the countryside. No wonder many
of our visitors come back time and time again.
