  milldale - millway cottage::

 

 

 

Nestled in the picturesque hamlet of Milldale, Millway Cottage has idyllic views of the Dovedale valley and the surrounding countryside. This most magnificent beautiful stretch of the river is an extremely popular tourist attraction.

Just half a mile from Milldale is the larger village of Alstonefield laying between the lower Dove and Manifold valleys. It is a pretty village that has not been spoilt by the large number of tourists it receives each weekend. The village is centred on the village green with the splendid George Inn, where you can get good value pub food.

The Watts Russell pub is also half a mile away. It is a free house brewery also serving good pub food. The historic town of Ashbourne is 7 miles south of Milldale. It is a lively market town offering a wealth of good eating-places including Chinese, Indian, brassieres, and highly recommended restaurants, even an excellent fish and chip shop.

Leisure

There are plenty of opportunities for walking in Dovedale, Manifold Valley, Limestone Way, Lathkill Dale, Monsal Trail, High Peak Trail Staffordshire Moorlands Walks Gritstone Trail. Cycling is also well catered for on The Tissington Trial, Monsal Trial, Carsington Water Trail, Manifold Valley. If you like water sports then try Carsington Water for Canoeing, Sailing, Windsurfing and Rowing. Golf Courses can be found in Bakewell, Ashbourne and Buxton. If you like the more leisurely pursuit of enjoying historic houses then Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Tissington Hall, Eyam Hall, Hardwick Hall, Sudbury Hall, Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey are for you. Also available is a 2 mile stretch of river from Milldale towards Hartington which is historically famous for its trout fishing and permits can be obtained locally. For the children there is Alton Towers, Chatsworth Farmyard & Adventure Playground, Gullivres Kingdom, Ashbourne Swimming Pool, Alfstonefield children’s playground all with easy reach. Finally, you may want some retail therapy after all that, so you could visit Peak Village, Denby Factory Shop, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Masson Mills and Belper.

Accommodation

Millway Cottage is a totally self-contained cottage that sleeps 2-4 people. It forms part of the Valley View property as seen in the picture above. The Cottage has just been completely refurbished and decorated to a high standard throughout. The ground floor of the property comprises of an entrance hall, double bedroom, bath/shower, and the stairs to the first floor lead into the kitchen and lounge/dining room. The lounge has a sofa bed, which sleeps two, a dining table and four folding chairs, and the kitchen is fully equipped.

We regret there is no smoking in the cottage. Dogs may be permitted but this must be discussed with the owner before the booking is made.
