the cottage crimbles lane youlgrave ::

Youlgrave is in the Southern (White Peak) part of the Peak District, four miles from Bakewell. It is situated on a limestone ridge running between Lathkill and Bradford Dales. The village is stone-built. Its main street runs along the top of Bradford Dale from where cottages spill down the daleside. Our cottage is one of these and is tucked away down a steep tarmaced path about 35 yards from the village street.

The cottage faces south and has a wonderful view down to the River Bradford and across the dale to the hills and woods on the other side. Set in a delightful, level garden with garden furniture, the cottage makes an ideal hideaway for a couple. With its studio, it can accommodate families or groups of friends.

Having had a holiday cottage in Youlgrave for about 20 years, we bought a larger house and retired here in 2001. Less than a year later The Cottage, Crimbles Lane came on to the market. It is right behind our house and we welcome visitors to share our lovely view and explore the local footpaths, lanes, villages and pubs and watch the changing seasons.

Youlgrave is one of the larger villages in the Peak National Park (population, about 1,500). It is a great centre for walking over a variety of terrain and an excellent base for exploring the National Park. It has three pubs, two butcher/grocers and a post office. Footpaths radiate in all directions and two long distance paths - the Limestone Way and the White Peak Way - pass through the village. Bakewell, the area's most attractive market town (Market Day Monday) is well worth a visit, except on Bank Holiday Mondays when it's best avoided. Chatsworth House and Park are about eight miles away; Ashbourne, Buxton and Chesterfield each about 14 miles. Some old railway lines in the area have been converted into 'trails' for cycling, riding and walking-for example the Monsal Trail (accessible at Bakewell) and the High Peak trail (accessible at Parsley Hay (about five miles away).
