  taddington - 2 the retreat ::

Location

Taddington is an unspoilt village half-way between the market towns of Buxton and Bakewell (6 miles each way) in the White Peak Region of the Peak District. The area is renowned for its beautiful scenery and is popular with walkers, climbers and cyclists. Footpaths can be accessed from the doorstep.

The village has one pub serving good quality home-cooked food and there is another just outside but within easy walking distance.

Accommodation

2 The Retreat is a spacious one bedroom limestone cottage which has been completely redecorated in 2008.

The generously sized bedroom with four-poster bed leads into the newly re-fitted shower room. Downstairs there is a large lounge with new G-Plan leather suite and stone feature open fireplace. The cottage also benefits from gas central heating and night-storage heaters. The galley kitchen is well-appointed and leads into a separate dining room with pine furniture and ceiling. There is a utility room with washing machine, iron and ironing board.

There is a TV/DVD player and a selection of books, DVDs and local maps is provided.

For your comfort 2 The Retreat is a non-smoking environment.

Outside

There is a small courtyard area with seating and a chiminea amidst a variety of plants in pots. A barbecue is available on request.

There is ample on-road parking.

Local Attractions

There are many local walks in the adjacent White Peak including both high level and riverside routes. The Dark Peak region with its spectacular moorlands and reservoirs is only 20 minutes away. Taddington is particularly well-served with local bus routes if you are planning a linear walk (timetables provided)

There are numerous climbing venues nearby such as Chee Dale by the River Wye and many routes on the various Edges, all of which are only a short drive away.

Cyclists are catered for both on road and cycle routes, such as Tissington Trail, High Peak Trail and the Monsal Trail. Another possibility is the circumnavigation of the Derwent Dams.

Within Taddington parish boundaries there are three nature reserves with SSSI status.

Local stately homes include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and only a little further afield, Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall.

The spa town of Buxton has an excellent and recently refurbished theatre with a busy and versatile programme. There are also theatres in Sheffield (35 minutes) and Manchester (1 hour).

Throughout the summer there are well dressings and carnivals in the surrounding villages.

There is a wide range of shops and supermarkets in both Buxton and Bakewell. Only 15 miles away is Matlock Bath with its numerous attractions for holidaymakers.

2 The Retreat is opposite the church which holds Sunday services every week.
