Set in a quiet location at the heart of the village, The
Forge provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for
5/6 in a building of real character. The lounge has a log
burning stove - logs are provided, there is a delightful garden
and off street parking for one car. The cottage has full central
heating and is equipped to a very high standard. It is given
a rating of 4 stars by the English Tourism Council.
The building now known as The Forge is one of the oldest
buildings in the village. It was run as a blacksmith's workshop
until about 1975 by Billy Clark, a well-known local character
and artist.
Originally it was 3 separate workshops - a blacksmith's
in what was once a 'one up-one down' cottage, a joiners in
another two storey building and between them a single storey
wheelwrights workshop. The central single storey building
was extended to both left and right linking the three workshops.
The anvil stands outside the front door and in the driveway
is the stone on which the wooden wheels were secured to have
their iron tyres fitted.
It was in very poor condition when the previous owners purchased
it in 1999. It has, since then, undergone a sympathetic conversion
and renovation completed in September 2004.
Accommodation
The front door in the central section of the building opens
into a large hall. To the right is a well proportioned and
well-equipped kitchen/dining room with oak floor and exposed
beams. Going through this room, a door leads to a spacious
but cosy lounge, again with oak flooring and having a wood
burning stove. French doors lead to a patio and good-sized
garden. Above the lounge is a single bedroom with ensuite
WC (a folding bed is available for use in this room required).
To the left of the front door the hall leads round to a beautifully
fitted bathroom with shower. There is a double bedroom on
the ground floor and a staircase leads to a twin bedded room
with adjacent WC.
All rooms are tastefully decorated and thoughtfully furnished.
There is full central heating.
We are confident that you will be pleased with what you
find.
