  youlgrave - mosstone ::

Location

From the A6 two miles south of Bakewell, take the B5056 and follow signs to Youlgrave. Drive through the village passing the church, the shops, the Bulls Head pub and the Post Office. Shortly after passing the Post Office you will see a left turn with a telephone box. Carry on (slowly) on the main road and Mosstone is the second house on the left hand side. It is on the roadside and has a street light mounted on the small extension at the front.

The name 'Mossstone' was the original name given to the hillside, now known as 'Mawstone', which forms the principle view from the rear of the house. The small extension at the front of the house was separate from the house and is remembered by many in the village as a toy shop. The building was purchased by the present owners in dilapidated state in 2004 and since then has been rebuilt to provide a charming and comfortable three bedroomed cottage with central heating.

The Area

Youlgrave is an attractive village at the junction of the rivers Lathkill and Bradford. It is an excellent base for exploring the White Peak area by foot, cycle or car and, for those simply wishing to relax, offers the peace and quiet of the unspoilt English countryside. There are shops, a garage, a post office and three pubs, all serving food.

The pretty market town of Bakewell is a short drive away and there is a regular bus service. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are easily accessible and the spa towns of Matlock and Buxton can be reached in twenty minutes.

Accommodation

The front door opens into the large well equipped kitchen/dining room with delightful views from the oak dining table. The floor is tiled with under floor heating. One door leads to the garden and a second leads to the utility room with space for coats and where the washing machine and tumble drier are located. Off the utility room is a toilet with hand wash basin.

To the left of the front door is the spacious lounge with solid oak flooring and wood burning stove (logs are provided). French doors open to the garden and offer a pleasant view over the garden and across Bradford Dale to the hills opposite.

Along the length of the rear of the house is a glass covered veranda providing a useful area to put on and take off boots and somewhere to sit and enjoy the warm summer rain. There is a delightful garden with lawn, flower beds, patio area and excellent views.

A staircase from the kitchen/dining room leads to the first floor landing. To the left at the top of the stairs is a twin bedded room with good open views. To the right is the master bedroom with double bed, en-suite toilet with hand wash basin and with excellent views from its two windows. Turning back along the landing is the shower room with large, walk in shower, wash basin and toilet. The third bedroom with pitched ceiling and oak beams has a single bed and a folding bed for use when needed.
