| Location
At the head of the Beresford Dale and is 12 miles north of
Ashbourne and close to the river Dove's tourist attractions.

Description
Hartington is an interesting place to visit, it has a good
selection of tea rooms, pubs and a variety of other shops
including Rookes Pottery which offers a large range of terracotta
pottery. There is also a cheese shop where you can purchase
award winning Stilton cheese which is made in the village
and many other local varieties. I'm told that the really impressive
Jacobean Hall, which is now a Youth Hostel, is open to the
public for meals and drinks and really is well worth a visit.
It has a village pond but it does not appear as one would
think of a village pond because it appears man-made.
The village is built around a large, spacious square. Just
off the square is the old Town Hall built in 1836 (top photograph)
which has been converted into a shop but is showing signs
of age (note the acro prop in the arch way). The church of
St Giles is a 13 century building with a number of interesting
monuments and gargoyles.
